What is your teaching discipline?

Health, Physical Education, and Wellness

What brought you to the area?

My first job out of graduate school was at the College of William and Mary.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in meeting students where they are, helping them to set goals, and guiding them on the path to success.

What do you hope your students take away from your courses?

It is so gratifying, as an instructor, to witness the moment when the information you are teaching becomes "real" for students. One of the reasons I am so passionate about teaching health is because students can walk out of the door of my classroom and personally apply many of the things we discuss in class. More specifically, every semester, my students set goals for improvement of their personal wellness. I love the moments, at the end of the semester, when they share how working on those goals has helped them to not only improve some aspect of their health, but how those goals have also helped them to be more successful as students (time management, more sleep, eating well, exercise - all of these things support a healthy body AND a healthy mind).

What do you like to do on the weekends?

Spend time outdoors with my husband, kiddos, and dog.

What is the most memorable place you have traveled to?

Sint Marteen - a beautiful island in the Caribbean. The people are wonderful and we loved exploring both the French and Dutch sides of the island.

What is in your refrigerator right now?

Leftovers from last week's dinners - Mondays are leftover night :)

What makes you laugh out loud?

When my youngest (5) states EXACTLY what is on her mind - no filter!

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Recently, I completed a proposal for a BRAND NEW degree in the VCCS - Associates of Science in Health Science; Personally - becoming a mom, 3 times over!

What is your greatest extravagance?

I love to run in road races (5K, 10K, 1/2 marathon) and competition races (Rugged Maniac) - it gets expensive, but they are SO fun.

Who is your hero?

My grandmother. She lived to be 95, raised seven kids and helped raise 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was one of the strongest women I have ever known - in faith and life. She was also just a tab bit on the feisty side :)
