What is your teaching discipline?

English--writing and literature

What brought you to the area?

My job at TNCC, and the cost of living in Southeast Virginia as compared to that in Southern California or New York City.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Students come first, and starting with where they are.

What do you hope your students take away from your courses?

If not a greater love of writing and/or literature, a more developed sense of self as a result of these studies.

What do you like to do on the weekends?

Cook, play music, read, watch TV (not network) and walk my dog.

What is the most memorable place you have traveled to?

It's a toss-up between Big Sur (and the San Francisco/Santa Cruz area of Northern California) and the French Alps.

What is in your refrigerator right now?

Lots of leafy greens, yogurt, soy creamer, eggs, cranberry and blueberry juice, cheeses and fruit.

What makes you laugh out loud?

Some things on social media--not stupid pet or people tricks--and movies like Deadpool.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Being married for close to 30 years.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Stringed instruments.

Who is your hero?

Toss-up between Jerry Garcia and single parents.
