Virginia Peninsula has wonderful advisors. The professors actually care as well and most of the ones I have had have been wonderful assets in helping me move forward.

Ashley Lyn is positioning herself to become a pediatric nurse and chose Virginia Peninsula Community College as the vehicle to get there. "I wanted to [attend] a community college because it would be cheaper and I can do the two-year transfer," said Lyn.

"Virginia Peninsula has wonderful advisors. The professors actually care as well and most of the ones I have had have been wonderful assets in helping me move forward. They have helped me find scholarships, gave me letters of recommendation and helped me with my college and scholarships essays," she added.

Lyn has William & Mary and Hampton University in mind as transfer options. She also plans to apply to Riverside Regional Medical Center's nursing program which would pay for her education and guarantee employment.

Despite a full schedule that includes a work-study position, a part time waitressing job and new motherhood, Lyn is active on campus as a student ambassador for the Student Life and Leadership Office and a Student Government Association senator. She is also a member of Virginia Peninsula's International Club. "I am also filling out volunteer applications to add on my college application, possibly get hands-on experience, etc., she said.
