Baseball Season Comes to Close

The Virginia Peninsula Community College baseball season ended with a 5-4 loss May 2 to Rockingham Community College in the first round of the NJCAA Region 10 Division III tournament in Martinsville.

As with most of their games this season, the Gators didn’t go down without a fight. They took a 4-0 lead in the second inning with RBI from Brendan Walker, Jayden Alvarez, Neo Klemish and Marco Fernandez.

The Eagles answered with one run in the third inning, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and the winning run in the seventh. The Gators loaded the bases in the eighth, but Israel Dozier lined out to right field to end the inning. They also got a runner on in the ninth, but couldn’t tie the game.

Kaden Hunley started on the mound for the Gators and went 6 2/3 innings. He scattered 10 hits and gave up just two earned runs. Garett Hedgepeth threw the final 1 1/3 innings and gave up one hit and no runs.
