Update: COVID-19 Preparedness and Mitigation

March 12, 2020 - At Thomas Nelson, the health, safety and wellbeing of our students, faculty, staff and community is our highest priority. Since January, Thomas Nelson has maintained regular contact with Virginia Department of Health representatives, who monitor and share daily and weekly situation reports.

Out of an abundance of caution for the Thomas Nelson community, to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19, and join the national effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, Thomas Nelson will take the following actions:

  • Spring break for students will be extended through Sunday, March 22. All classes will resume through virtual or alternative delivery starting on Monday, March 23, and continue throughout the remainder of the spring semester.
  • Students in courses with hands-on instruction, including workforce courses, should expect to hear directly from their instructors or program coordinator regarding instruction.
  • Students are expected to check their Thomas Nelson e-mail accounts regularly for updates.
  • Campuses remain open, and faculty and staff are expected to report to work as scheduled, unless otherwise approved for leave.
  • College services at all locations will remain open (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Thursday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.), including Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Cashier's Office, Academic Advising, Veteran Services, Testing Services, Library Services, Bookstore and Tutoring. Food Pantry support will also be available. College services are also accessible online via MyTNCC and Navigate.
  • Computer labs will be available for students who require computer and internet access. A list of available computer labs will be provided via email.
  • All College events, and community events scheduled to take place in College facilities, with expected attendance over 100 are cancelled through May 9. *A decision regarding Commencement Exercises scheduled for May 14 has not been made.

College campuses will be closed for extensive sanitizing and cleaning on Friday, March 20 and Friday, March 27. Employees should not report to work.

As this remains an evolving public health situation, the College will continue monitoring CDC and Virginia Department of Health recommendations and respond accordingly.
