Virginia Peninsula Community College will celebrate student achievement at its 2026 Commencement Exercises. The event is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Hampton Coliseum.
Cameran Drew will deliver the keynote address. A Surry County Board of Supervisors member, he is receiving an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration during the ceremony.
Last year, Drew made history at age 19 as the youngest elected official in both the county and Virginia. The Surry County native represents the Dendron District, where he’s a business owner and philanthropist. He’s also a staunch community advocate, promoting awareness about diabetes and youth mental health.
He graduated from Surry County High School before enrolling at VPCC. Drew plans to continue his studies in business administration while pursuing a minor in political science. He’s the son of Cornelius and Misty Drew and has four siblings.
His rise to public office attracted national attention, with features on MSNBC’s “Politics Nation,” CBS Evening News, and in The New York Times.
The May 14 ceremony marks VPCC’s 57th graduation. College officials invite families, faculty, staff and community members to attend the celebration.
