Our newest location, the Newport News Trades Center features Workforce Development programs and classes geared toward creating a pipeline of skilled tradespersons to support the Navy’s shipbuilding goals.
Funded through a partnership between VPCC, the Maritime Industrial Base, and the Newport News Economic Development Authority, the Newport News Trades Center offers hands-on programs in welding, marine electrical, structural fitting, coatings, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and facilities maintenance.
Located at 520 21st Street in Newport News, the 16,000-square-foot center is a short distance from Newport News Shipbuilding, and is strategically positioned to revitalize the local community by connecting residents with the training needed for careers.
Construction on the facility began on August 12, 2025 and it officially opened for business on March 25, 2026, with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
