Virginia Peninsula Community College’s new Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Development will train teachers, administrators, and families to provide the finest education to the children of Newport News. The CEECD, as we call it, opened officially on January 16, 2025.
Located within the Newport News Early Childhood Development Center, our center will ensure that children entering kindergarten are ready in the critical learning domains including literacy, math, social skills, and self-regulation. Students can enroll in General Education courses and complete Associate of Applied Science degree and certificate programs in Early Childhood Development at this location:
- Child Development Career Studies Certificate
- Early Childhood Development Assistant Certificate
- Early Childhood Development Associate of Applied Science
Through our presence in Newport News, we will offer for-credit and credentialing programs, as well as community education workshops and professional development opportunities for current early education teachers, administrators, and caregivers.
