Structural Firefighting

The Structural Firefighting Career Studies Certificate at Virginia Peninsula Community College prepares students for Virginia Firefighter I-II certifications. Our program covers key areas of firefighting, which include learning about fire protection and prevention, health and safety, rescue operations, and hazard control.

The curricula was designed to follow the Virginia Department of Fire Programs curriculum for Firefighter I and II.

Our Structural Firefighting Career Studies Certificate prepares graduates to earn industry certifications and begin entry-level careers in municipal, industrial, private, federal, or Department of Defense fire service positions.

Students will take a variety of Fire Science Technology courses in this program, including FST 123 – Structural Firefighter I, FST 124 – Structural Firefighter II, and FST 220 – Building Construction for Fire Protection.
