Virginia Peninsula Community College has received “Best Technical School” and “Best Public College/University” honors in Coastal Virginia Magazine’s 2026 Best of Readers’ Choice Awards.
The annual awards celebrate the businesses, educational institutions, organizations, and destinations people voted as the best in their communities. Coastal Virginia Magazine readers cast nearly 250,000 votes this year. The magazine published the list of winners in its July/August edition. It also hosted a special gathering in their honor July 16 in Williamsburg.
Readers chose six of the region’s leading institutions in the “Best College/University” category, and seven in the “Best Technical School” category. VPCC received the most overall votes in both categories, earning “overall gold” status. Gold, silver and bronze designations went to others, including Old Dominion University, William & Mary, Tidewater Community College and The Apprentice School, to name a few in no particular order.
Officials at VPCC, calling the recognition “especially meaningful, coming directly from the people,” believe it reflects the community’s confidence in the College’s dedication to providing accessible, high-quality education, innovative workforce training, and diverse career pathways that prepare students for success.
VPCC was established in 1967 among 23 institutions within Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS). The College offers degree and transfer programs, workforce credentials, and student support services designed to meet the evolving needs of students and employers.
This Best of Readers’ Choice Awards acknowledgement highlights VPCC’s growing reputation as a leader in higher education and workforce development, officials emphasized, thanking voters and crediting the College’s dedicated faculty, staff and leaders for garnering the public’s trust and support.
