The contract for Virginia Peninsula Community College’s newest building has been awarded to Cooper Tacia General Contracting. It is replacing Diggs, Moore and Harrison halls on the College’s Hampton Campus. They were among the campus’s original buildings built in 1967.
Groundbreaking for the Diggs/Moore/Harrison Complex is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, with completion of the estimated $45 million project in late 2028. It will be three stories, 75,000 square feet and used for classrooms, administration offices, a cyber security suite and more.
Diggs, Harrison and Moore halls were a combined 58,000 square feet and housed classrooms, offices, computer labs, a multi-purpose conference room, two boardrooms, campus police operations and more. The buildings were closed in phases beginning in 2023. Their replacement, funded by the state, will consolidate functions currently spread across the campus into one facility better suited for today’s learning and administrative needs.
Cooper Tacia is headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., and has completed projects in multiple states across the country. RRMM will remain onboard as the architect/engineer vendor.
