Keegan Wright is determined to become a cardiovascular technologist. So, he’s getting a jumpstart at Virginia Peninsula Community College, seeking an Associate of Science degree in Health Sciences.

Wright, a Health Sciences major, is among four students chosen for the Presidential Ambassadors program this year. The 10-month commitment involves participating in campus events, working in various roles, and being mentored by VPCC leaders. Each ambassador also receives a $1,000 incentive.

After attending other schools, Wright is glad he enrolled at VPCC. The Gloucester High School graduate said the welcoming, supportive atmosphere, broad-ranging academic offerings, and robust student activities won him over.

Since enrolling, he has maintained a 4.0 GPA, earning membership in the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and he’s a member of the Natural Science and Engineering Student Association. Wright also enjoys community participation, volunteering with the American Red Cross and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Wright plans to enroll in the Cardiovascular Technology program at Riverside College of Health Sciences after finishing at VPCC. He hopes to specialize in adult echocardiography.

While proud of his achievements, he recognizes his family (parents Lisa and John Wright; sister Amber Wright; grandparents William and Dorothy Wright and Marion and Charlie Owen; his aunt and uncle Lisa and Blair Steele) as the main source of motivation.
