Jenaveve Meachum is working toward an Associate of Science degree in Social Science at Virginia Peninsula Community College. Although currently focused on sociology, she plans to continue her education studying psychology in a bachelor’s degree program upon transferring.

Meachum is among students chosen for the Presidential Ambassadors program this year. The 10-month commitment involves participating in campus events, working in various roles, and being mentored by VPCC leaders. Each ambassador also receives a $1,000 incentive.

Her path to VPCC began after graduating from Honolulu’s Radford High School. Now a Williamsburg resident, she said the welcoming, supportive environment was a big factor in her decision to enroll at the College. She believes the pressure-free educational setting is ideal for finding her direction.

Beyond her studies, Meachum previously served as a student ambassador. She believes that experience and her new Presidential Ambassador role are major confidence boosters as she gives back to the VPCC community.

She’s proud to have earned a spot on the Presidential Ambassador team and appreciates the support and influence of several faculty and staff members, including adjunct instructor Linda Dunn and Jamal Davis, Outreach and Recruitment coordinator. As for her greatest source of motivation, Meachum said her late stepfather continues to guide her forward.

Looking ahead, she hopes to turn her passion for helping others into a career. She has her sights on becoming a therapist or a forensic psychologist.
