Ezeckiel John Dela-Cruz brings special energy to Virginia Peninsula Community College. It’s drive, enthusiasm, and willingness to explore.
That energy led Dela-Cruz to the College’s Presidential Ambassadors program. He is among students chosen this year to serve 10 months, participating in events and working in various roles on campus. In addition to being mentored by VPCC leaders, ambassadors receive a $1,000 incentive.
A Business Administration major and Woodside High School graduate, he attributes his drive to growing up in a family full of entrepreneurs. He also enjoyed playing business-themed video games in childhood. So, his major was the natural choice.
Dela-Cruz balances a part-time retail job with full-time studies. He said having a strong network of supportive people, especially his manager, helps him prioritize his studies.
He’s most proud of regaining self-worth and finding purpose after overcoming bullying and depression. Of the VPCC student experience, Dela-Cruz’s favorite to date is a Public Speaking class taught by Anthony Fotinos because he gained confidence, community, and valued friendships. He wants to become more involved at the College. Helping rebuild VPCC’s theater program tops his list of future endeavors, given he’s also an aspiring actor.
