Important Canvas Announcement

Update: May 8 2026, 12pm

Dear VPCC Students, Instructure, the company that provides the Canvas service, has eliminated the ransomware threat and has not found any evidence that data was obtained. Access to Canvas and integrated tools such as publisher technologies are now available. Please contact your instructors about negotiating any needed adjustments to completing your remaining final exams/activities. If you encounter any technical difficulties, then contact the Technology Service Center to submit a ticket, or click on the Help button to speak directly with Canvas support. VPCC Canvas Admin

Per VCCS system office,

Canvas service has been restored, and Single Sign-On (SSO) access has been re-enabled, providing secure authentication measures for our students, faculty, and staff.

The myVCCS portal Canvas tile is also functioning normally again.

We are aware of an active issue originating with Instructure, the vendor that provides the Canvas learning management system. This is an Instructure/Canvas issue and not the result of unauthorized activity within VCCS systems. Some users are currently seeing a screen that indicates unauthorized or malicious activity when attempting to access Canvas.

Instructure is actively investigating the issue and working to contain and resolve it. Until further notice, students and employees should NOT enter their username or password into Canvas or any Canvas‑related website, and should NOT download or open any files or links presented through Canvas or related pages.

VCCS Information Technology Services is aware of the situation and continues to closely monitor developments.

Additional information and guidance will be provided through official VCCS communication channels as the investigation and resolution progress. Thank you for your caution and patience and please widely share this notice.
