Invest in our student-athletes and in their futures.
Athletics play an important role on many college campuses, including Virginia Peninsula Community College. Athletics enhance community college life by increasing full-time enrollment, community engagement, and school spirit.
One of the goals of the VPCC athletics department is to provide student-athletes with a first-class community college athletic experience. Student-athletes learn skills both on and off the field or court in addition to bringing immense value to the institution. Student-athletes came from across the country, including Texas, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina, and Maryland, to participate on VPCC teams.
VPCC’s athletic department sponsored just three intercollegiate sports (baseball and men’s and women’s basketball) along with cheerleading heading into the 2021-22 academic year. The Gators added women’s volleyball in 2022-23 and men’s soccer in 2023-24.
Since 1978, the first year of intercollegiate athletics at the College, Gators teams have won more than 15 VCCS and conference titles. The men’s basketball team is coming off its best season in program history, falling one win shy of reaching the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament. The men’s soccer team won a conference title in its first year, and the women’s volleyball team placed third in the conference in 2023, its first season as an NJCAA member.
Behind that success has been the support of donors, sponsors, friends and family. The College wants to keep that support going with the launch of a fundraising campaign, “Fueling the Gators: Invest in our Student-Athletes.” The effort will help VPCC student-athletes afford everything they need to succeed in all areas of college life.
“Virginia Peninsula Community College student-athletes are passionate about their sports. With your support, students can prepare for successful careers while playing the game they love,” said Chris Moore, VPCC’s athletics director and men’s basketball coach.
Added men’s basketball player Jacob Garrison: “A donation is not just an investment in sports; it is an investment in my education, career, and future.”
