New Students

Welcome to Virginia Peninsula Community College! We’re glad you’re here. Follow the steps below to get started!

STEP 1: Apply to VPCC

  • Apply Online
  • After applying, you’ll receive your tuition rate status, student ID number, myVPCC username.
  • Check the email you used to apply for follow-up information from Enrollment Management.

STEP 2: Activate your myVPCC account

  • Login to myVPCC using the new username that you receive upon submitting the application.
  • If you need help accessing your account, visit the Technology Service Center

STEP 3: Financial Planning

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for federal, state, and VPCC financial aid that can help you pay for tuition, fees, and textbooks.
  • Check your Action Items & Messages in SIS frequently for updates
  • Check your tuition rate in your SIS dashboard. Contact admissions@vpcc.edu with questions or for more information see our Tuition Eligibility page.
  • Complete the VPCC Scholarship Application. Open annually from April – July
  • Using military/veterans benefits? Make sure to meet with Military and Veterans Services staff.
  • Make a plan to pay your tuition. Payment plans are available. Tuition deadline dates are posted on our Academic Calendar. If you don’t pay by the deadline, you may get dropped from your classes, and you’ll need to register again.

STEP 4: Meet with an Academic Advisor

  • You’ll use Navigate (found in the myVPCC portal) to make an appointment with your Advisor. Navigate will be available the day after you apply.
  • Learn more about Navigate and how it is used.
  • Your advisor will help you make a plan to finish your program. They’ll be able to let you know how close to graduation you are and what classes you still need to take.
  • Drop-in advising is available on Thursdays; you must have an appointment for all other days.
  • If appointments are unavailable before you want to register, register for classes NOW and meet with your advisor later to confirm your plan.

STEP 5: Register for Classes

  • Log into SIS through myVPCC and check for any holds that could prevent registration. Your holds will be listed in the Action Items & Messages panel.
  • Visit the Placement page to determine math and English placement. *Placement tests are available for certain course placement.
  • Using the programs of study in the College Catalog to determine which classes you need to take.
  • Next, access SIS through myVPCC. Use the “Class Enrollment” tile to search and add classes to your cart and register. For step-by-step help, visit the SIS and myVPCC Help page.
  • You can also attend a FastTrack to Registration event for assistance.

STEP 6: Check Your VPCC Email

  • Once registered for classes, your student Gmail account is activated. Access it through myVPCC.
  • Your email address will be your VPCC username followed by @email.vccs.edu
  • All official college communications will be sent to this address. Be sure to check it daily and use it to communicate with us.

STEP 7: Pay Tuition

  • View your tuition bill and account information in SIS through myVPCC.
  • Be mindful of deadline dates that are posted on our Academic Calendar.
  • If you register after the posted tuition deadline, you will need to pay immediately to avoid being dropped from classes.
  • Payment plans are available through your SIS portal. If financial aid is pending, you may need to make alternate arrangements. If you don’t pay by the deadline, you may get dropped from your classes.
  • Work with Financial Aid or Military and Veteran Services to confirm your aid and/or benefits.

Other Things to Do Before Classes Start

  • Order Textbooks. Visit our bookstore, your one-stop shop for all the materials you need to succeed.
  • Get your Student Photo ID and parking pass.
  • Attend New Student Orientation (NSO). Orientation is for all students and introduces you to important college resources and expectations. An orientation course is also available in Canvas.
  • Send us official transcripts and test scores. This may include high school transcripts (recent graduates); GED, AP or CLEP scores; and transcripts from any colleges you may have attended.   • Request Accommodations through the Office of Accessibility if needed.
