All Virginia Peninsula Community College campuses and educational sites are opening late, 12/05/2025 at 10:00 a.m. All classes, events, and activities BEFORE opening are cancelled. All classes, events, and activities AFTER opening will be conducted on time.
The College is continuing to monitor weather conditions and any changes to this operational status will be communicated as quickly as possible. Employees should prepare to transition to remote work, if necessary. Employees with questions should contact their supervisor for additional information.

10 November 2025: The VPCC Historic Triangle Campus is experiencing at power outage.
- Dominion Energy currently anticipates power to be restored by 3:00 p.m. today
- In-person classes that begin at the Historic Triangle (HT) Campus prior to 3 pm are cancelled. Students in those classes should check email and canvas for information from their professors.
- In-person classes that begin at or after 3:00 p.m. today will meet as scheduled.
- Virtual classes and all classes at other VPCC locations are not impacted and will meet as scheduled.
- Employees at the HT campus should contact their supervisor for continued work location expectations.
- Essential Personnel already at the HT campus shall remain at the HT Campus.
The College will continue to monitor the situation and make operational adjustment to this planned reopening throughout the day. If the reopening will be further delayed, additional notifications will be provided via Gator Alert, the Gator Ready Mobile Safety app, and posted to this page.

September 2025
- 20 September 2025: At approximately 10:48 AM the Department of Police, Safety, and Security responded with the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue to a fire alarm activation in the Gators Cafe area of Kecoughtan Hall on the College’s Hampton Campus. A VPCC police officer was the first to arrive on scene to the unoccupied building, entered to investigate and noted a smoke condition and an active fire in proximity to a vending machine. The VPCC police officer immediately accessed a fire extinguisher and quickly extinguished the fire, containing the fire damage to the vending machine and floor area immediately under the machine. Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue arrived within minutes of the incident, with the fire, already extinguished, Hampton Fire crews assisted with facility ventilation, and cleared the scene. a minor portion of the Gator Cafe area sustained minor smoke damage; however; the building will be prepared to open as scheduled on Monday.

- 30 August 2025 10:45 PM – VPCC Gator Alert: ALL CLEAR ALERT: VPCC is issuing an ALL CLEAR for the previously issued investigative alert. VPCC Department of Police, Safety, and Security in collaboration with Hampton Police Department have determined the reported incident to be an unfounded false call/report. Always be vigilant and maintain situational awareness of your surroundings. If you see something, say something!
- 30 August 2025: 9:35 PM – VPCC Gator Alert: EMERGENCY ALERT – HAMPTON CAMPUS: active law enforcement investigation, Hampton Campus. Additional Info: https://www.vpcc.edu/alert-updates – There is currently an active law enforcement investigation occurring on the Hampton Campus. Please avoid the area while law enforcement conducts their investigation and ensures the campus is secure. Campus Police in collaboration with the Hampton Police Department are currently engaged in an active investigation on the VPCC Hampton Campus. The Department of Police, Safety, and Security has received reports of a potential act of violence, and units are currently searching the campus grounds to determine the validity of the report.

- Additional Information in Email and Canvas: Due to the potential impacts of a significant winter weather event this week, Virginia Peninsula Community College is acting out of an abundance of caution and care for our VPCC Gator Family and is closing all campuses and educational sites. The College will transition to remote operations and learning on Wednesday, February 19 and Thursday, February 20, 2025, as follows:

Virginia Peninsula Community College Gator Alert Notification System Test Schedule*
- January: second Wednesday of the month at 11:00 AM – System Test Alert Messaging
- March: in coordination with the Virginia Statewide Tornado Drill (typically the second Tuesday of the month at 9:45 AM) – Tornado Exercise/Drill Alert with Protective Action Exercise/Drill Alert Messaging.
- July: second Wednesday of the month at 1100 AM – System Test Alert Massaging.
- October: in coordination with the International Shake Out Day a.k.a. The Great Shakeout – Earthquake Exercise (typically the third Thursday of October at 10:16 AM) – Earthquake Exercise/Drill Alert with Protective Action Exercise/Drill Alert Messaging.
* Test of the Gator Alert notification system will NOT be conducted if a real-world incident/event requiring Gator Alert issuance and/or National Weather Service severe weather alerts occur before or during the scheduled test date/time.
The Gator Alert notification system may be activated periodically in conjunction with scheduled exercises/drills. Typically, exercises and drills will be announced and alerts may include emergency alerts and protective action alerts and will include the test Exercise or Drill in the message.
