Virginia Peninsula President Towuanna Porter Brannon was among three community college presidents in attendance when Interim Chancellor of Virginia’s Community College Dr. Sharon Morrissey along with members of the General Assembly’s Eastern Virginia delegation introduced a transformational workforce development initiative called HIRE Virginia.

During the Jan. 6 gathering at Tidewater Community College, Dr. Brannon joined TCC’s President Dr. Marcia Conston and Dr. Corey McCray, president of Camp Community College, to hear discussions about HIRE Virginia. The plan aims to train and place 75,000 middle-skill workers over three years.

State Board for Community Colleges members, Vice Chair Peggy Lane, Dana Beckton, Maurice Jones and Bruce Meyer were also on hand.

Virginia General Assembly members who represent Hampton Roads – Delegate Jackie Glass, Delegate Angelia Williams-Graves, Delegate Anne Tata, and Delegate Shelly Simonds – lead the dialogue with questions about workforce needs, details about the HIRE Virginia plan and ways they could continue supporting the VCCS.
