- Discusses career and educational goals and available pathways with students, including traditional and workforce programs.
- Facilitates the student’s enrollment and registration process.
- Counsels and advises students in making career related decisions, using assessment instruments and resources where appropriate.
- Maintains direct and proactive contact with students.
- Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding academic programs, curriculum, program policies and procedures, and available campus resources, aids students in course selection each semester.
- Procures and follows-up on prospective student referrals from applicants and other sources.
- Review and approve reclassified – in state tuition domicile appeals.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of and complies with all applicable institutional, state, and federal regulations and policies for Admissions.
- Advises students about methods of payments for their education.
- Disseminates information regarding the application process and how individual students’ programs affect their financial assistance.
- Assists students in applying for various types of financial assistance programs and resources; interview students and assist in completing student aid applications.
- Monitors academic performance, and guides students to successful completion of their graduation requirements.
- Coaches’ students as necessary on how to use WES to access their student online services account, navigates VPCC’s website with knowledge and works within the realm of the college’s policies and procedures, deadlines, and other information applicable to the student’s situation.
- Provides students with information about applying, placement testing, advising, financial aid, general academic program requirements and registration.
- Knowledgeable of all designated educational transactions (for example, enrollment period and registration schedule, drop/add period, withdrawals, change of program of study, waivers, graduation requirements, etc.).
- Registers students in Workforce Development classes, processing registrations in WES; when registration errors or other requirements prevent a student from registering, troubleshoots the student’s situation, advising them of next steps and/or how to become eligible for registration.
- Participates in selection, recruitment and admission process of students and provides recommendations when required.
- Works closely with students, faculty, and staff to enable students to achieve their educational goals and assist the college in achieving retention goals.
- Monitors students’ progress (grades and other performance indicators); follows-up with students on any report of unsatisfactory work (notice of class probation for poor attendance, notice of failing grades, incomplete grades from past semester(s), etc.). Intervenes if behavioral or academic abnormalities occur.
- Counsels’ students on academic warning, assesses needs and creates a short-term plan for immediate improvement; assists student with developing realistic academic plans.
- Assesses gaps in student preparedness and develops tailored plans of pro-active strategies to facilitate success; monitors and evaluates student’s effectiveness in applying these strategies and adjusts as necessary to meet student’s needs.
- Counsels’ students on progress towards graduation, course selection and career decisions.
- Utilize Navigate to manage communication campaigns with students, including outreach to potential students as needed.
- Assists students who have withdrawn from their classes or who have been dropped from their classes to re-register/re-enroll into their program of study; makes advising an integral part of the students’ learning experiences through one-on-one, student-centered advising in a supportive and caring environment. Incorporates and provides a timely AT-RISK Intervention approach for those students who are in need.
- Inform students about alternatives, limitations, and possible consequences of academic decisions (for example adding, dropping, and withdrawing from courses in addition to change of program).
- Encourages students to persist and to complete their programs and credential attainment in a timely manner.
- Document interactions with students through Navigator’s case management systems.
- Assists students with establishing, developing, pursuing, and meeting individualized post-secondary planning, goals, and objectives to match student interests and opportunities.
- Provides information regarding job services to include employability skills, resume development and job referrals; assists students in establishing and achieving educational, personal, and professional goals.
- Counsels and advises students in making career related decisions, using assessment instruments where appropriate; assists students in the use of existing resources for learning about careers of interest to them; critiques resume and assists with programs and services related to placement activities.
- Coordinates with partner agencies their services and employment opportunities for the purpose of matching students with full-time or part-time employment.
- Informs and if necessary, refers students to other institutional resources especially in cases where the student may want to enroll into a degree program at VPCC.
- Assists students in completion of college enrollment, paper or online forms and applications, reviewing forms for accuracy and consistency.
- Supports all transitioning students to set career and academic goals and identify the support services needed to address challenges that negatively impact each student’s success.
- Participates in the development, planning and implementation of non-credit policies and strategies aimed at increasing adult learner student success in all college programs and services.
- Knowledgeable of labor market information, current trends, and relevant information to accurately depict the reality of the job market as well as enable students to explore the information effectively.
