The Virginia Sheriffs' Institute (VSI) Scholarship Program was established to provide an opportunity for young people across Virginia to pursue an educational curriculum in law enforcement or criminal justice. This program is limited to students attending Virginia colleges and universities. Only majors in the criminal justice field will qualify for a scholarship. Those majoring in law or pursuing a career as a lawyer will not be considered a criminal justice major.
Over the years Hampton City School students have received a $1,000 Virginia Sheriff's Association scholarship to attend college. Once students begin college they can re-apply for the scholarship each year while in college should they continue to major in Criminal Justice.
