VA Nursing Scholarship Programs

Virginia offers several scholarship opportunities to help pay for nursing education in exchange for service in Virginia after graduation. Scholarships are available for students enrolled in an approved nurse education program in Virginia. The program must prepare them for examination for licensure as a: Licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, and certified nursing Aides. Scholarships are for students enrolled at an accredited program in the state of Virginia.

Scholarship Programs

  • Mary Marshall NursingScholarship Program for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)with an award of $2,000.
  • Mary Marshall NursingScholarship Program for Registered Nurses (RN) with an award of $2,000.
  • Mary Marshall NursingScholarship Program for Certified Nursing Aides (CNA)with an award of up to $1,000.

Funding for the Mary MarshallNursing Scholarship Program(MMNSP) is dependent upon funds appropriated each year by the Virginia General Assembly and byBoard of Nursing, as well as the number of qualified applicants. Participants in the MMNSP for CNAsshall receive up to $1,000 whileLPNs and RNs shall receive $2,000per year for up to four years.

The application cycle begins May 1 and closes June 30 of each year.

Requirements

All programs require residency in Virginia for at least one year and full or part-time enrollment in the appropriate educational program along with a completed application and other required materials. The applicants must also:

  • MMNSP for LPNs, RNs and CNAs requires a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (GPA may not be required for CNAs) and a demonstration of financial need, verifiable by the financial aid office of the applicant's nursing school.
