The Virginia-North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) aims to increase the quality and quantity of students successfully completing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) baccalaureate degree programs.

The Virginia-North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation strives for diversification of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce, with an emphasis on increasing the number of underrepresented minority students earning baccalaureate degrees and matriculating to graduate school.

LSAMP Program at Virginia Peninsula

Minority Students are invited to participate in Virginia Peninsula Community College's Program funded by Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Grant. This program offers multiple benefits to the students:

Eligibility:

The overall goal of the program is to assist colleges in diversifying the nation's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to populations historically underrepresented in STEM disciplines: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders. The intention of LSAMP funding is to help diversify STEM by providing support to URM students, however; non-URM (underrepresented minority) students CAN participate in LSAMP activities/receive support provided they are United States citizens or permanent residents.

  • United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Enrolled and Virginia Peninsula and majoring in a STEM discipline
  • Ability/desire to maintain strong math skills
  • Expressed interest in pursuing a STEM baccalaureate degree
  • Attend sessions of this program
  • Complete LSAMP application forms at UVa and Virginia Peninsula
